TFN and Life Group Recap

By SFSU Koinonia

Hey everyone! Hope you all enjoyed the smaller group setting last Friday. Some of the bros went bowling while others had a full on nerf war and we wrapped up the night with celebrating Jeff's birthday and being inspired with watching episode 2 from Band of Brothers. The girls had a night of spring rolls, funnel cake, and Despicable Me. It was definitely a nice cozy time for everyone. We have a very short recap video that I think the guys will appreciate more than the girls but it gives you a little picture of what the night was like. Enjoy! This week we will have prayer meeting at FUPC on Tuesday at 9pm by life groups so let your staff know if you need a ride. For this Friday, we will be meeting as a large group for TFN at 225 Burke Hall at 6:30pm starting with a warm home-cooked dinner. So mark your calendars and we'll see you all there! Also, here are the latest galleries of the pictures from the past TFN a couple weeks ago and the dim sum run we made two weekends ago.

Valentine's Day Recap

By SFSU Koinonia | 1 comment

Last Tuesday, we got to celebrate Valentine's day by going to Mission Convalescent Home and the Salvation Army Rehab Center where we were warmly welcomed by the residents. So instead of sitting, feeling sorry for ourselves, we got to go out and share God's love with those who really need love since they're forgotten by the rest of society. We had a wonderful time meeting people from all walks of life and the students got to present the Broken Heart Skit which was powerfully performed and brought tears to many. We then got to meet a lot of the people who live at the Rehab Center and hear their stories about how they got there and how God has taken their lives and made them new. It was such a powerful experience for many of us, especially given the fact that many of the guys were twice our size but after talking and getting to know them, we found out that they were really nice and easy to talk with. All in all, it was the best Valentine's Day for all of us.

Spring Welcome Night Recap

By SFSU Koinonia | 5 comments

We ended the first week of February with a bang! Last Friday we have our annual Spring Welcome Night on the SFSU campus. It was great to see a lot of familiar faces, and new ones, too! We started off the night with dinner, then a skit performed by our very own SFSU students which helped set the scene for the message. Joe gave a thought-provoking message on Psalm 139, about the different masks we tend to wear and the images we try to put up in front of everyone, but all of it causing us to grow more and more isolated and empty inside. But God knows us completely and fully, flaws and all, yet still loves us just the same. It was a reminder for all of us to engage in meaningful relationships with other people and God by just being open and true to yourself. We had a panel of post-college students that shared with us the many different kind of masks they used to wear. Some were funny, and others were downright shocking! We "topped" off the night with some dessert and games. Check out the recap in pictures below!

SFSU Gift Exchange Recap

By SFSU Koinonia | 6 comments

Hey everyone! Hope everyone is hanging in there with finals! Last Friday we joined our Berkeley counterparts for a combined bible study with Pastor Ed. Afterwards, we had the most epic SFSU gift exchange ever! We had acrobatic re-enactment of TC skits, Hersey kiss toss-a-thon, and many other battles for the right to pillage another team's presents. It looked like everyone went home with a nice gift, especially those from Serrano house if you know what I mean :). We ended the night with some sharing and singing Christmas carols by candlelight. All in all, it was an awesome time! Due to finals this week there will NOT be life groups and we will have something super-awesome this Friday so keep checking back for the latest news! In the meantime, good luck to those who still have finals left and make sure to sign up for the winter retreat if you haven't done so already! Check out the photos below!

Ice Skating Recap and SFSU News

By SFSU Koinonia | 3 comments

Hey Everyone!  Check out the vid above to see a recap of the things we were up to these past few weeks. Last week's ice skating was a blast!  There were races, sick poses, and a whole lot of slipping and falling but everyone managed in the end to learn how to skate :).  Hope none of you guys are bruised as badly as some of the staff from all the falling (I'm sure the extreme slide in th playground added to some of the bruises!).  Check out the pictures below! This week, we'll be going over to Berkeley to join our Berkeley counterparts for bible study and then afterwards is our much anticipated Gift Exchange!  This is not your normal gift exchange as our seasoned veterans can attest to.  But it's one of the most fun nights you'll ever have!  Please bring a gift between $5-$10.  But if you forget, that's ok, just come anyways and enjoy the fun :).  There's sure to be a gag gift in there or two that'll make you wonder, "where in the world did they get that?!?"  Rides will be at the dorm stop starting at 6:15pm. Then on Sunday at 6pm after our worship service will be the cutest event of the year as our Joyland kids put on their annual JCC (Joyland Christmas Celebration).  If you're not too stressed with finals or want a break then let one of the staff know that you would like to come and check it out. Lastly, make sure to sign up for the Winter Retreat is you haven't already done so.  You can find out more info HERE.

Happy Thanksgiving!

By SFSU Koinonia | 6 comments

Hey everyone!  SFSU Koinonia just wanted to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and safe travels for everyone who is away from SF State right now.  If you're in the area, then you're all invited to join Joe and Annie for a wonderful and warm Thanksgiving dinner and games!  If you're interested, then feel free to contact Joe or one of the staff. Last Sunday was an incredible Sunday of dancing, fun, and hilarious skits. Of course, SFSU represented as well with our own rendition of the life of King David in three dances. Check out the video below: Afterwards, we headed over to Joe and Annie's place to a scrumptious Turkey feast and recounted all the ways God has been faithful in our lives and shared what we were thankful for. It was quite a night to remember. Check out the photos below.

Thanksgiving Retreat Recap!

By SFSU Koinonia | 2 comments

Hey Koinonia! What an amazing retreat this past weekend! We had over 300 people fly/drive in from the various grace point churches, for a total of 1,400 people in attendance. It was an awesome time of hearing how God has been working through our various church plants and ministries (such as Joypact, middle-school church, and Hsinchu, Taiwan). SFSU also came over to Alameda and finally had the sleepover that we had been talking about! It was a packed three days but time seemed to fly by so quickly... at the end, we had to say goodbye to all our out-of-town/state friends. We got to hear about the many lives that God has touched, and be blessed by special elements such as our very own Gracepoint orchestra (some of our SFSU students were in it)! If you missed out on the retreat... well, there's always next year, and at least you can make it to our upcoming events (whew, November is a packed month!). This Wednesday, we have life groups at Arballo (bros) and Serrano (sis). On Thursday, we will kick off the most anticipated apologetics conference in the west coast. We will hear from the top minds of Christianity who will lay out logical and compelling arguments for the Christian faith. This is definitely a can't-miss event! If you're interested, then contact us HERE. The EPS conference goes from Thursday and ends on Saturday, so feel free to let us know if you want to attend as space is very limited. Then on Sunday is our annual THANKSGIVING CELEBRATION!! This is when all of our practice and preparations from the previous weeks will culminate into one night of fun (albeit somewhat shameless) performances, tons of good food, and a whole lot of fun. If you want to go, let one of the staff know or contact Chris, our friendly rides czar.

It was also Tiffani's birthday this month so we wanted to wish her a happy bday from Koinonia! Check out the TC and birthday pics below! If you missed out, ask them to share their story with you when you see them. You can check out the pictures below. This week we'll be continuing with our various life groups and if you would like to join in then feel free to contact us! TFN and Weekend Recap

By SFSU Koinonia | 6 comments

Hey Koinonia! What a packed weekend! We had the amazing privilege of having Pastor Ed and Kelly come over and give the message at A2 last Friday, and we were able to pack everyone into the room. Then we prepared for Thanksgiving Celebration (or "TC" for short) by having our first performance practice and the moves are looking pretty good! It was a crazy-fun time! You can check out the picture gallery at the end of the post, for a recap of the night. On Saturday we had the opportunity to  witness and celebrate Steven and Amy's wedding! Congratulations Steven and Amy! (Steven and Amy helped out with SFSU Koinonia before heading over to serve in the Berkeley Praxis ministry). We then had our annual Fall Fest this past Monday with a TON of GOOD food and good fun! Recap of Fall Fest coming soon! In the meantime, check out the recap video of this past weekend below. Here's a quick plug for the Thanksgiving Retreat coming up in a few weeks. Check the calendar on the right for more details. It's great seeing students from all the different colleges in one video, and our very on Mike is showcased as well! This week we have a lot going on so be sure to check them out on the calendar on the right! Wednesday we're starting up our second session of Course 101 at 7pm over at 516 Arballo for all the new people that want to take it. There's also Life Group happening over at 524 Arballo and Serrano, starting at 6:30pm... so try not to get the two mixed up :). This Friday, we'll be having our TFN over at 516 Arballo once again, followed by TC practice and then we'll be heading over to Alameda for a sleepover! TFN and Night Frisbee Recap!

By SFSU Koinonia | 8 comments

What an awesome time we had last Friday! Pastor Jonathan joined us again and gave us a talk titled, "SFSU" (Some Fearless Souls United) which dealt with our fears and how we need to have proper fear. It was a really engaging time we had with both Pastor Jonathan and Susanna. Afterwards, we watched some of the awesome (and not so awesome) skits and acts from past Thanksgiving Celebrations to get us pumped up for this year's. To top off the night, we headed over to the Arballo field and played some glow-in-the-dark frisbee and capture the flag. Check out some of the pictures below, and click on the button below to see a gallery of all the pictures from that night!

Friday "Knight" Recap

By SFSU Koinonia | 3 comments

Hey guys! Last Friday we had an awesome time at Joe and Annie's place from the mouth-watering Korean bbq to the laugh-till-your-stomach-hurts Knight event over at North Loop.  We started the night off with a nice stroll around the lake over in the park at Bay Farm to build up an appetite for the hot links and Korean bbq that we handily dusted off back at Joe and Annie's place. Joe then gave a talk from the book of Jonah and finished "Questions God asks" series. Afterwards we headed over to our church building called North Loop (named such because it's on North Loop Rd) and got to arm our very own students as knights and see them compete in a series of gladiatorial events. We then finished the night off with eating banana boats around a fire pit right in Joe and Annie's backyard and told bone-chilling ghost stories.  It was definitely a packed night where we got to experience it all.  If you missed out then you can always check out our recap video below! This week we're back at Science 101 with some more exciting events so stay tuned and check back for the announcements coming soon!

Bible House Party & Farewell Recap

By SFSU Koinonia | 3 comments

Hey SFSU Koinonia!  We've got a special Friday for all you!  This Friday, we're going to be heading over to Alameda and meet at Joe and Annie's house for the first SFSU Koinonia bible house party!  We'll be having bbq, sports, and more so make sure to free up your Friday night.  We'll have rides over to Alameda starting at 5:15pm sharp at the dorm stop (DSA). Also, last Sunday we had a farewell for Daemin and Ahmi who have been with SFSU Koinonia since the beginning.  If it were not for them, many of us would not be here, so we wish them all the best and will keep them in our prayers as they help serve in Soul Care ministry, Elderly Care Ministry, and Visiting Scholars Ministry over in Berkeley.  It was also a time of farewell for Dennis and Nancy, too, as they will be heading off with Daemin and Ahmi. If you missed out last Sunday, you can watch the videos here: Music video made by some of our students Slideshow detailing the history of Koinonia here in SF Normal vs, where we show what normal people would do in a certain situation versus the featured person. Hello New Life, New Semester, and New Student Welcome Night

By SFSU Koinonia

What a week!  Congratulations to Cristian, Deborah, and the brothers and sisters in Berkeley who got baptized this Sunday!  As we crowded around the swimming pool, we celebrated together their new life in the Lord.  Afterwards, mobs of people, cards, frames, fruits, and picture-taking ensued. And that's not all going on in Koinonia.  We got NSWN coming to town in just over two weeks, so let the countdown begin! This week we're back at Arballo for dinner and Bible study, with prayer meeting and church service on Sunday in Alameda.
